Home Improvement’s Patricia Richardson has revealed how her decision to leave the hit sitcom ended up bringing the entire show to an end.
The actress starred alongside Tim Allen in the successful comedy from 1991 to 1999, as millions of fans tuned in to watch the lives of Tim and Jill Taylor.
It turns out the show could have gone on for more seasons if Patricia had been willing to stay on a little longer.
In a new interview, the actress told Entertainment Tonight that she had decided it was time to move on after eight seasons.
When attempts to get her to sign on for one final season failed, producers approached Tim Allen with the idea of continuing the show without her character.
The actress explained: ‘So then they went to Tim, and they said let’s do it with dead Jill.
‘And then Tim was like, I don’t think we can do that. So then he went out and said well, I think it’s time to end Home Improvement.’
The pair eventually reunited on screen in Tim’s ABC series Last Man Standing, which is set to end on its ninth season in 2021.

After leaving the show, Patricia went on to star in shows such as The West Wing and Strong Medicine.
She has since stepped away from acting to focus on her family.
